Starting to see life in the garden

I planted my garden about two weeks and a few of the seeds are starting to sprout. TM built me several new raised beds and I think I about tripled the size of my garden this year. I intentionally had him build a variety of shapes and heights to make them look at bit more like “landscaping” than garden. The long narrow one is 23 x 3 and was the most challenging one to get in place and fill with soil.

Here’s what we planted this year:

  • Strawberries
  • Asparagus (can’t harvest for a few years but you have to start sometime)
  • Radishes
  • Pumpkin
  • Beets
  • Cucumber
  • Carrots, two varieties, including some multi-colored ones
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Roma tomates
  • “Regular” large tomatoes
  • Jalepeno peppers
  • Habernero peppers
  • Yellow peppers
  • Red peppers
  • Orange peppers
  • Corn
  • Kohlrabi
  • Zucchini
  • Red onions
  • Shallots
  • Cabbage

I also did pots with herbs, including oregano, chives, cilantro, peppermint and parsley.

Yeah, that much. It didn’t take too long one Sunday morning to get it planted. I had some small plants that I had purchased and many packages of seeds. For most of the items, I just planted a short row and had some seeds to save for next year, as well. I know the picture makes it look like I need to water the garden, but I’m holding off because he has had a lot of rain and more is in the forecast for the weekend.

So far, I’m seeing radishes and onions popping up. The plants have been tortured with the recent winds, but I think most will make it.  Can’t wait!
