I’m thankful for a “real food” Thanksgiving
We had Thanksgiving dinner at my mother’s home, and she also has recently become interested in “real food.” I didn’t quiz her on the entire meal, but she mentioned last night that most of what she was serving would be considered “real food.”
She asked me to bring a salad and I found this recipe for Mache and Pomegranate Salad in Martha Stewart’s Thanksgiving menu for 2012. I had some challenge with cleaning and cutting the tangerines and ended up using canned mandarin oranges instead, but otherwise, this was a good tasting salad. I would definitely save this recipe as a resource for a good salad dressing made with maple syrup and balsamic vinegar.
Mom’s menu included:
- Turkey
- Mashed potatoes
- Homemade gravy
- Stuffing
- Relish tray with fresh vegetables, pickles and black olives (although Mom did say the ranch dressing was purchased)
- Yellow corn
- Squash
- Homemade whole wheat buns
- Lefse (sometime I need to look at this recipe to see if it’s “real food”)
- Mache and Pomegranate Salad
- Pumpkin Pie
- Chocolate Pecan Pie
Happy Thanksgiving!
(If I can track down a picture of our table, I’ll add it later)
